The attitude of a teacher is very important in the educational sector. They are indispensable stakeholders in the industry. This is why emphasis is placed on their issue in every conference or discourse relating to the industry. A teacher is the central focus of the industry and their attitude will determine how the students are being imparted. If you see a student performing brilliantly well, you need to appreciate their teacher. In other words, there is no student that is self-made.
For the educational sector to be successful, there must be right attitude from teachers. Education is the foundation for societal growth and development, hence, every stakeholder should work tirelessly to ensure it delivers the best services at all times.
Understanding Attitude in Relation to Education
Attitude has to do with the mindset of a person in relation to a given issue; it is the pattern of thought of an individual. In simple language, we can say that one’s attitude is one’s own culture. Hence, everyone who knows you can predict your likely reactions to issues.
Every human being has their own attitude. However, our major preoccupation here is to explain how attitude of stakeholders in the educational industry affects the learning outcomes of students. The best way to preserve the future of our nation is to ensure that our children have quality, sound and practical education.
The attitude a person develops towards learning determines what they get from that particular concept. Since we said that attitude is who we are, this means that our attitude is what people see, rather than what we say. Students and kids generally are moved by what they see. An ideal and professional teacher should possess positive attitude; you need to be enthusiastic about your job, relate with your students as your kids and be passionate about their growth. When you do all these, they are bound to mirror your attitude and be committed to whatever you want them to do.
There are some teachers that pupils do not like simply because of their behavior. In fact, I make bold to say that attitude is the foremost thing that endears you to people. some erroneously think it is what they teach; if you don’t have good attitude, you can never have the attention of the students. I have seen teachers who are not too sound but command respect among their students because their attitude is endearing. Thus, we can conclude that attitude is the vehicle through which knowledge is conveyed.
Importance of Right Teacher Attitude
There are so many benefits of a teacher possessing the right attitude, both within and outside the classroom.
It shapes students’ learning experience: Whether your attitude is good or bad, it would have an impact on the learning experience of your pupils. Right teacher attitude means that students are happy to learn and once a child develops positive habit to learning, you can be sure that the lesson is like a walkover to them as they will fully participate in class activities and assimilate almost everything that is taught. Students are highly intuitive—they can and usually feel your mood and attitudes. This means that even if you want to pretend about your feelings, they will still fish you out. You should not try to play on their intelligence as they will find out.
I know that you are a human being too which means there are times that you will feel stressed and disturbed by a particular thing. You should look for ways to eliminate the stress. Dwelling on the negatives today does not mean something good will come the next day. Look inward to understand what went wrong and then, turn them into positive vibes and be strengthened for the next day
It improves the health of a teacher: The power of positivity is inestimable. When you have the right attitude, it lowers your blood pressure and heart rate. Negative emotions such as fear and anger ensure the production of adrenaline—the fight or flight hormone. Although this hormone plays a crucial role in our lives when we are faced with more intense situations such as car accident or the like but it is not helpful when dealing with minor problems raised by your students. Having the right attitude means you will approach every problem with the right mindset. You are not a rollercoaster, hence, you need to relax and be positive about every issue.
Right attitude bolsters your level of satisfaction: There is no gainsaying that the academic sector is filled with a lot of problematic students and even frustrating colleagues. And as humans, we have the tendency of focusing on only the negative at the expense of other positive occurrences within the same environment. Instead of bothering yourself all-day with the pupils that are not doing well, take out a minute and reflect on those that are making you proud. This is the best way to neutralize the feeling.
How Teachers Can Imbibe Best Attitudes For Students’ Success
For the sake of the students and progress of the educational sector, teachers need to imbibe positive attitudes. I established in the opening segment of the essay that some teachers are more preferable than others because of their attitude. This is to reiterate the importance of attitude to all that we do. Teachers can imbibe best attitudes for students’ success by being:
Observant: A teacher that is not critical about their students or events going round them is not a worthy one. You need to observe your students closely to see and hear the unsaid. Due to the age gap and formal setting, many students may not be as open as expected. Hence, they will keep things away from you. But if you keenly observe them through the instrumentality of body language reading, you will understand their innate thoughts towards an issue. children hardly hide their body language, so, if you are a good reader of non-verbal cues, this is your sure-bet to be a distinguished teacher.
Positive: You can also imbibe the best attitude through positivity. No doubts, there are times that would be frustrated and feel like giving up on some students but you must concern yourself of the ultimate goal. Be positive about everyone and relate with them on the basis of hope. You will keep seeing gradual improvement till the child meets your taste.
